About the Department

 

Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India, more in the vast rural areas. It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, sustainable natural resource management and biodiversity protection, are essential for holistic rural development.

 

Undergraduate academic degree, typically encompasses a comprehensive study of various aspects of agriculture, including genetics and plant breeding, agricultural entomology, horticulture, animal science, soil science, agricultural business, agronomy, and agricultural technology. The program aims to equip students with a broad understanding of agricultural principles and practices, as well as the application of scientific and technological advancements in agriculture. Graduates with this degree often pursue careers in farming, agricultural management, research, and agribusiness.

 

It’s goal is to teach students how to improve crop output sustainably and provide general knowledge about agriculture and associated fields. The program offers an opportunity for master’s, and doctoral degrees in various areas of specialization like agronomy, entomology, soil sciences, horticulture, plant breeding and genetics, plant pathology, animal sciences, extension education, plant biochemistry, agriculture economics, and biotechnology.

 

Department members are involved in conducting dept. level induction programmes, bridge courses (theory and practical) and remedial classes. Department holds student seminars, field visits to industry, various research station visits, extension work in adopted village, AELP and RAWE Programmes. Students of Agriculture and Rural Development department are actively organizing academic competition as elocutions, debates, quizzes, essay writing, puzzles and cultural events through “BIO ASSOCIATION”.

  • To contribute significantly to the dissemination of new technology in agriculture and research in the discipline of Agriculture sciences to establish global competence among students by inculcating optimistic thinking and positive spirit.
