St. Joseph's College for Women

St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous), affiliated to Andhra University, the first Women’s college in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, with its unique ethos of trained resourcefulness and excellence has been creating generations of empowered women who are spread all over the world making their presence felt in the society.

The college was founded in July 1958 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy in response to the local need for a Women’s college in the city of Visakhapatnam.

St. Joseph’s College for Women aims at being a Centre of Academic Excellence which empowers young women to provide intellectual leadership and transform the world through Courage of Conviction, Optimism and Hope. St. Joseph’s College for Women, affirming its faith in God and love for humanity seeks to impart Holistic Education to young women while developing global competencies of leadership and makes them socially responsive members in a changing technology driven world.

St. Joseph’s College, offers holistic Education in Arts, Science and Commerce for the Empowerment of Women from all sections of society by promoting Academic Excellence, Global Employability and leadership with Social Conscience. Our College is the only AU affiliated Aided Women’s College with NAAC A Grade on the new four point scale and has been autonomous since 1987. College has been awarded 87th rank in NIRF 2017 in Colleges category.

The College has evolved into a reputed institution of higher education, dedicated to academic excellence, utilizing the various opportunities provided by Andhra University, the State Government and University Grants Commission.

Being the first college to initiate the semester system, credit and grade system at undergraduate level, currently its 24 departments offer fourteen undergraduate.

St. Joseph’s College for Women (A) figures in the list of top ten users of N LIST resources in the country. College is implementing new CBCS as per UGC and APSCHE guidelines. The New CBCS offers academic flexibility, especially in offering multidimensional, useful and skill or job oriented Electives, while having a specialization orientation for Postgraduate study.
