 About Department

The Mathematics Department is one of the oldest Departments in the College which was established in the year 1958. The subject Mathematics was offered in combination with Physics and Chemistry in the year 1958-59, later it was extended along with Physics and Computer Science in the year 1990-91, Economics and Computers in the year 2008-09 and latest with Statistics and Computer Science in the year 2016-17.

The popularity of the Department has lead, the college to start PG Course in Mathematics since 2003 successfully. Most of the alumni attribute their success in Professional Careers to their learning of Mathematics in St. Joseph’s College for Women (Autonomous).

The department of mathematics strives to be recognized for academic excellence through the depth of its teaching and research, and to be locally relevant through its role in the development of the community. It serves while aligning with global technology.

Mission

The mission of the mathematics department is to provide an environment where students can become mathematical thinkers, competent users and problem solvers of mathematics and mathematical applications and enable them to become lifelong learners and function as productive citizens.
