About Department
St. Joseph’s college Library is one of the oldest private govt. aided autonomous degree college library in Visakhapatnam. It spreads in an area of 3806 sq ft. The library is located in a separate two storied building with mezzanine flooring situated very close to the main block. The Library is equipped with fire alarm, Tripod turnstile based entry, CCTV surveillance.
The collection includes text books and reference books, journals, magazines, CD/DVD’s, back volumes in a wide range of subjects such as English literature, pure sciences, arts, history and social sciences, languages, general topics etc. The library has a spacious air-conditioned reading hall and reference section that can accommodate more than one hundred users at any point of time.
The library is automated with integrated library management software SOUL 3.0 (Software for University Libraries) of INFLIBNET. The various housekeeping activities of the library such as data entry, issue and return of books, member logins etc are done through the software. OPAC (Online public access catalogue) service is also provided where the users can search the collection of books by title, author, publisher etc. Barcode technology is implemented at the circulation counter. The Open Access system in our library facilitates quick and better access to the books. The books are classified according to Dewey decimal classification.
Apart from the printed books the library is having access to e resources through NLIST (National library Information services and Infrastructure for scholarly content) of INFLIBNET and also our institution has registered for National Digital Library where the students can have access to e books, e journals, databases etc. The Various services offered are Circulation service which is issue and return of books, back volumes, reprographic service, and CD/DVD and internet service.
The St. Joseph’s College library is an exceptional center for learning, discovery and research and is equipped with the best of resources, facilities and services to enable its members to become proficient information users.

Objectives
- Provide books, printed materials and other electronic resources for teaching, learning and research.
- Access to knowledge, promote scholarly communication and provide information to academic community to support teaching, learning and research activity.
- Organize materials to acquire, manage, and disseminate and make use of library.
- Provide guidance and aid to the people in their use of the library’s resources.
- To work with faculty in integrating information skills, knowledge of information sources, and the use of technology in accessing information needed to strengthen their instruction, research and extension programs.
- To provide an appropriate and comfortable environment and facilities for the use of library

Rules for Borrowing Books:
- Each student will be given library ID. No. and two library tickets on admission, which will entitle her to borrow two books at a time from the library. These must be presented at the issue counter whenever students borrow books. The library tickets are not transferable.
- Books will be issued from 9.30 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. only.
- Books will be issued for a period of 2 weeks each time. The book may be reissued if there is no damage for it.
- If a book is not returned on the due date, a fine will be levied. The membership will be cancelled after a delay of 5 days from the due date.
- Students are not allowed to sub lend the library books to other students.
- Students should check, whether the book lent to her is in sound condition. If not she must report immediately to the Librarian. Other- wise she is liable to be responsible for the replacement of the book.
- If a student loses any library book, she shall make a written complaint (in triplicate) to the Librarian. If a book issued is damaged or lost, the student must replace it. If one volume of the set is damaged or lost, the whole set must be replaced.
- The following books are for REFERENCE within the library only: Dictionaries, Encyclopedias. Etc., Art books and expensive books, Single copy text-books and some reference books.
